The HCPTS makes independent decisions about registrants' fitness to practise
Independent adjudication means that we can make sure decisions are made separately to the investigation process, which is carried out by the HCPC.
The HCPTS launched in April 2017, after the government announced its intention to introduce greater separation between the investigation and adjudication of fitness to practise hearings. The General Medical Council established a similar service called the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.
A non-statutory Tribunal Advisory Committee advises our Council on how to recruit, train and assess the Tribunal Panel Chair, panel members and legal assessors.
