Biomedical scientists

Professional bodies typically promote the profession, represent their members and provide curriculum frameworks, training and CPD.

Whilst these organisations are separate from the HCPC, their role may be complementary to ours.

Professional bodies for biomedical scientists include:

Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)

With over 21,000 members in 74 countries, the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) is a leading professional body for scientists, support staff and students in the field of biomedical science.

For over 100 years they have been dedicated to the promotion, development and delivery of excellence in biomedical science within all aspects of healthcare, and to providing the highest standards of service to patients and the public.

Whether you are just starting your studies, working as laboratory support staff or are a newly HCPC-registered biomedical scientist, their membership provides tools for your career. For more advanced practitioners it can help you earn professional recognition for your skills and experience. All IBMS members have access to the UK's largest network of biomedical professionals, allowing you to connect with your peers and fellow members.

Other organisations

We work closely with both trade unions and professional bodies. Some professional bodies we work with are themselves trade unions or have close formal links to them. You can find more information about the other organisations we work with on the trade unions section.
