Orthoptists and paramedics renewals - window closing soon

21 Awst 2023

The deadline for orthoptists and paramedics to complete their registration renewal is fast approaching

Orthoptists and paramedics have until 31 August 2023 to complete all steps of the process outlined below.

It is the professional responsibility of all HCPC registrants to complete their renewal on time, if they would like to continue to be on the HCPC Register. We urge all registrants to renew as soon as possible, to ensure they can continue to practise without disruption.

Our Registration team have sent out email and text reminders about the renewal deadline, however you do not need to receive either of these to complete the renewal process.

How do I renew?

You can renew your registration quickly and easily, using your online account. Follow the steps below to do this.

All steps are necessary to renew your registration

  • (If you have already activated your account, go to step 2.)

To activate your account, go to the activation page, enter the email address you provided when you registered, plus your registration number. Follow the instructions on the page.

If your email address is not recognised, or you need to change it, click the ‘Change email and activate’ button to enter a new email address and activate your account.

If you need support with this process, try our step by step instructions on activating your account.

    Activate your account now

  • Log in to your online account using the email address and password that you set up during the activation process.

We use two-factor authentication to verify your identity. You'll receive a code via SMS on your phone, which you'll need to enter. If you cannot access this, please contact us asap.

If you need support with this stage of the renewal process, take a look at our step by step instructions for logging in.

When you've logged into your account, you'll be able to see the date your renewal is due. Click the Renewal section to be taken to the first page of the process.

    Log in to your account

  • In your online account, click the link in your renewal section.

If you haven't already submitted your equality monitoring information, answer the questions on the first screen to do so. When you’ve answered all questions, click Submit to move to the next section.

Complete your professional declaration by answering or confirming each statement you're shown. Your registration renewal is not complete unless you have answered this.

    Log in to your account

  • You can choose from one of the following options to pay your renewal fee:

    • Pay the full amount of £196.24; or
    • Spread the cost by paying by direct debit.

If your payment has not been processed by the time the window closes, your renewal will not be complete. Please allow up to 3 working days for payments to process.

Direct debits are taken twice a year, over the course of two years, in instalments of £49.06 (or £24.53 if you're paying the graduate rate). The first instalment will be collected either on the 1st or 15th of the month, depending on when your declaration was made. We will not collect your direct debit until you have submitted your professional declaration.

How do I know my renewal is complete?

Your renewal is complete when you have made your declarations, answered the equality monitoring questions and when we have received and processed your payment (or valid direct debit instruction). This can all be done via your online account.

When your renewal is complete, your record on the online Register will be updated and you will receive confirmation of this via email. If you are unsure whether your renewal is complete, please check the Register or check your online account.

What happens if I don’t renew in time?

If you don’t complete these steps by the deadline, or if you remove your direct debit instruction without an alternative payment, you will be removed from the Register.

You will not be able to practise or use any of the protected titles associated with your profession until you are readmitted to the Register

It is vital that you follow all the steps above to ensure you can successfully activate your account, log in and complete your renewal.

What do I do if I no longer need to be registered?

If you no longer need to be registered with the HCPC, you can remove your name from the Register. Find out more about the deregistration process.

Help and support

Common issues when trying to log in

  • This can be caused by a number of factors. One or more of the changes below should resolve it.

    1. Make sure you’ve activated your account before logging in. If this is your first time logging in, or your first time logging in since 2020, you’ll need to go to hcpc-uk.org/activate and complete the steps.

    2. Re-activate your account: go to the activation page (hcpc-uk.org/activate), enter the same email address and use the ‘Change email and activate’ button (this can re-trigger the system notifications)

    3. Re-activate your account with a new email address: go to the activation page (hcpc-uk.org/activate), enter a new email address and use the ‘Change email and activate’ button

    Tried these steps without success?
Contact registration@hcpc-uk.org with your registration number, and explain the issue. Please include information about the steps you’ve followed, so that our team knows what has been tried. Ask for details on how to make your readmission payment by bank transfer.

  • This will mean that you can’t receive your verification code via SMS. You won’t be able to complete your two-factor authentication, so you'll need the number on your account to be updated.

This can only be done by a member of our Registration team. Please contact registration@hcpc-uk.org with full details as soon as possible. We will need your name, address and date of birth to identify you, and your new phone number.

  • There can be some delays to receiving the verification text message. This can range from one to six hours.

If you've waited six hours without success, contact registration@hcpc-uk.org with your registration number, and explain the issue. Please include information about the steps you’ve followed, so that our team knows what has been tried. Ask for details on how to make your readmission payment by bank transfer.

Common issues when activating an account

  • When you enter your details into the activation page, you should receive an email enabling you to complete the process. If you don't receive this email, please call our Registration team.

They will be able to look into the issue and support you in resolving it. If you are trying to make a payment, they will be able to do this for you.

    Please call +44 (0)300 500 4472 or +44 (0)20 7582 5460, and our lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm UK time.

  • This can be caused by a number of factors. One or more of the changes below should resolve it.

    2. Go to the activation page (hcpc-uk.org/activate), enter the same email address and use the ‘Change email and activate’ button.

  • This can be caused by a number of factors. One or more of the changes below should resolve it.

    1. Make sure you are using the most recent temporary password you were sent. Each time a password is generated, the previous one becomes invalidated. This will mean it is rejected. If you’ve generated multiple passwords, make sure there is no chance that the correct one is still on its way.

    2. Follow the link in the activation email itself. This is a unique link with information that communicates with your account settings. You won’t be able to activate your account wihtout clicking it.

    3. Open the activation link using a browser that is not Google Chrome. To do this, right click the link (or tap and hold) and select ‘Copy link address’. Then paste it into a new browser.

    4. Go to the activation page (hcpc-uk.org/activate), enter the same email address and use the ‘Change email and activate’ button.

    5. Go to the activation page (hcpc-uk.org/activate), enter a new email address and use the ‘Change email and activate’ button.

  • Please ensure your registration number is entered correctly. Registration numbers start with letters followed by a series numbers with no spaces. For example: ABC01234

Ensure the email address is the same one that you have provided to us previously. You can try again this step again if you have more than one email address you may have used.

  • If you received a message that the email address is 'already in use' or 'activated', you can either:

    1. Click 'Change email and activate' to activate using a new email address - this will take you to a new page on which you'll be asked to verify your identity using personal data

    2. Visit the system login page and use the password you have created, use the temporary password if you have been sent one or reset your password by clicking ‘Cant access your account’
