The winners of the HCPC student competition 2023 have been announced, with the students formally accepting their prizes from the HCPC Council
The competition is open to all students on HCPC-approved programmes in the UK. This year, entries were sent from a wide range of students, who created a 30-minute learning session exploring the importance of, and different ways of, maintaining your health and wellbeing as a health and care professional.
The judging panel reviewed each entry, and reported a high overall standard, which is testament to a talented and dedicated generation of health and care professionals.

Natasha Ahmed, studying Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Hertfordshire
Runner up
Nikki Godridge, studying Diagnostic Radiography at Birmingham City University
Runner up
Kathryn Gillespie, studying Occupational Therapy at the University of Liverpool
The winners were invited to formally collect their prizes from the HCPC Council at its bi-monthly meeting on 30 November 2023. The HCPC’s Council, which consists of 12 members led by the Chair, directs the work of the HCPC. The Council reviewed the winning entries and noted that they were inspiring and tackled this important subject very well.
The three entries will be uploaded to our student hub soon and shared with other students via their education programme leads.
Judges’ feedback
For Natasha Ahmed, University of Hertfordshire:
‘Good visuals and particularly liked the use of sound files that enhanced the presentation. Clear slides that utilised pictures and words. Enjoyed that a reflective activity was included in the presentation.’
Natasha wins a £300 voucher, and has decided to donate a portion of her prize to charity.
For Nikki Godridge, Birmingham City University:
‘I liked how this presentation started with the regulations, considered the impact on patients, and then looked at how to maintain health and wellbeing. It was well referenced and researched and demonstrated a depth to the understanding of what was asked for.’
Nikki wins a £150 voucher.
For Kathryn Gillespie, University of Liverpool:
’Good slides, not wordy and included an embedded links to HCPC. Good range of strategies and included repetition of the messages throughout.’

Next year
The student competition will run again in 2024, with the deadline likely to be towards the end of the summer holidays. The theme will be announced earlier than ever before, giving students even more time to consider their entry.
The competition will be announced on the HCPC website, and sent to all UK approved education providers, who can inform their cohorts.
