International application assessment update

12 Rhag 2023

We have made some important changes to our requirements and processes for international applications to our Register.

We have also introduced new changes to the way our Registration Assessors carry out their assessments of applications.  These changes will improve the quality and authenticity of submissions we receive and enhance the information we document regarding any assessment decisions.

New course information form

We introduced a new course information form in September this year. The new form has been updated to gather more information about the applicant’s primary qualification, including learning outcomes achieved through their training and more detail about practice-based learning the applicant completed.  We have also changed the format to make it easier for our Registration Assessors to review this document.

Plagiarism checks

We introduced new checks into our processes for all documentary submissions an applicant makes, including new applications and any responses to further information requests made during the assessment process.  All documents submitted are checked using Turnit In, a third-party software product commonly used in education and other relevant assessment related sectors.  To support these checks, we have also developed a policy and procedures which detail what plagiarism means to HCPC, what we will do to investigate instances of plagiarism, and the impacts this can have on the process and applicant.

Changing our approach to assessing the Applicant’s Primary Qualification

We have introduced a new approach to assessing an applicant’s primary qualification by enhancing the Record of Assessment and how we document findings.  This will mean we have more detail about how the qualification compares to the requirements set out in the standards of proficiency.  The revised form and assessment approach will come into effect for all new applications sent out to our assessors from 8 January 2024 onwards.
